ICDS is pleased to announce a new call for proposals in support of interdisciplinary collaborations between Junior Researchers and faculty researchers.
All Penn State faculty are invited to participate in Stage 1, while grad students, postdocs, and research faculty are invited to participate in Stage 2.
Successful projects will rely on a strong pairing between faculty mentor proposals in Stage 1 and with Junior Researchers identified in Stage 2.
Stage 1: Identifying Research Project Proposals
Submission Deadline: Friday, May 9, 2025
We welcome any Penn State faculty to submit short proposals describing potential ICDS interdisciplinary opportunities that would incorporate Junior Researchers into their research program. Proposals should relate to an ICDS area of interest (AI, Computational Sciences, Data Science, Digital Twins, or Quantum) and offer clear opportunities for collaboration.

Stage 2: Applications from ICDS Junior Researchers
Submissions Open: Monday, May 19, 2025 (tentative)
Submission Deadline: Monday, June 16, 2025
Potential ICDS Junior researchers (current Penn State graduate students, current or incoming Penn State postdocs and research faculty) will apply to participate in one or more of the proposals identified during Stage 1. Applicants will be asked to describe their qualifications and how they can contribute to the success of the project.

ICDS Junior Researchers Support and Expectations
ICDS is working to build a community of Junior Researchers (graduate students, postdocs, and research faculty) and will organize some events (e.g., ICDS talk series, ICDS Symposium) to support their professional development.
- The typical support for graduate students will be the stipend for a graduate research assistantship at the pay grade typical for the student’s department and stage of progress towards the degree.
- The typical level of support for postdoctoral researchers or research faculty will be 25%-50%.
- ICDS Junior Researchers will be expected to engage in ICDS events on a regular basis while they are supported by ICDS.
- ICDS Junior Researchers should plan to engage with each of their selected Research Opportunities.
