The Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) aims to bring together faculty, students and industry professionals to foster innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration through the annual symposium event.

This year’s event, ICDS Day MMXXIV: Shaping the Future of Penn State’s Digital Research, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 at 9 a.m. at HUB Alumni Hall.

Attendees from diverse disciplines are encouraged to participate in panel discussions, networking sessions and flash talks about cutting-edge methodologies, data analytics and ethics, artificial intelligence (AI) and more. The event sessions are also geared towards open computational resources and facilities to aid in interdisciplinary research collaborations.

“ICDS Day promises to be an exciting and insightful event,” Wolf Hey, ICDS interim director of operations, said. “Highlights for ICDS Day include sessions on AI, research excellence and funding strategies. A student poster session and networking event will end the day. This is a fantastic opportunity for researchers, industry professionals and students to connect, share ideas and contribute to the evolving landscape of data science at Penn State.”

In the evening sessions, graduate students will present their computational and data science research in a traditional poster session which is judged. The top two posters will win a monetary prize.

Researchers from across Penn State have also submitted proposals for research that will be presented in a five-minute flash talk format. Selected principal investigators (PIs) will connect with attendees on ways to transform their ideas into a set of achievable next steps.
