Millennium Cafe: Teaching Data Centers to Think: From Digital Twins to Physical AI

Millennium Science Complex

Wanda Zuo, IEE fellow and professor of architectural engineering, will present "Teaching Data Centers to Think: From Digital Twins to Physical AI" for this week's Millennium Cafe on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the third floor cafe commons of the Millennium Science Complex. Abstract: Artificial intelligence is transforming science and society, but it is also driving unprecedented growth in the energy needed to power data centers. In this talk, I will show how physics-based digital twins help us understand and optimize these complex systems, and how they provide the foundation for the next generation of Physical AI.

Millennium Cafe: Machine Learning for Materials Synthesis: A Baking Analogy

Millennium Science Complex

Stephanie Law, ICDS Quantum Hub associate director, IEE fellow and Norris B. McFarlane Faculty Career Development Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, will be presenting "Machine Learning for Materials Synthesis: A Baking Analogy" as part of this week's Millennium Cafe on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the third floor cafe commons of the Millennium Science Complex. Abstract: In this talk, I will explain how we are using machine learning to improve materials synthesis using concrete examples and by making an analogy to chocolate chip cookie baking. In addition to describing our scientific efforts, I will also give a brief overview of our DOE Genesis project and how the Genesis program is operating.
